Musicians and the Watches They Love
One of the great things about artists who are able strike it rich with their craft is that they become huge patrons of other artist’s work. I think artists may just be wired that way. They appreciate quality and craftsmanship more then the average Joe does.
When it comes to buying things one would consider “art”, rich musicians can sometimes be some of the most voracious consumers.
That said, I decided this week I will talk about what watches some popular musicians are wearing, so here goes…
This last month at the Virgin Megastore in Time Square, Andre Benjamin (AKA Andre 3000) from Outkast was signing new “Idlwild” CD’s. While chillin with his partner in crime, Big Boi, Andre was spotted wearing a Ikepod watch. This is a very cool fashion forward watch that is unfortunately no longer in production. You do see a few of them on Ebay from time to time if you would like to see what they look like.
The singer Seal also tends to “get a little crazy” at the watch shops too. A few months ago he was spotted with his supermodel wife Heidi Klum shopping for their newborn child. While loading some super-sized stuffed animals into the car, Seal was photographed wearing a Panerai Marina. A super stylish watch for a super-stylish musician.
Another big Panerai guy is John Mayer who performed on the “Today Show” wearing an oversized Panerai. It seems that John is a bit of a collector because if you watch his DVD “Any Given Thursday” you will notice that he is wearing an IWC Big Pilot which sticks out like a sore thumb on his small wrist.
At the MTV Music Awards a few weeks ago one of my favorite singers John Legend was wearing one of my favorite watches. With a nice white suit, Mr. Legend sported an Audemars Piguet Edward Piguet Chronograph in rose gold.
Then came Kanye West……..
Kanye walked into the MTV Music Awards like he owned the place. As he walked in with his entourage, he was photographed wearing an Audemars Piguet End of Days watch. This is one of Audemars Piguet’s most sought after watches for the hard core Offshore enthusiasts. This limited edition beauty can set you back a healthy 20-30K if it in mint condition.
Country musicians have always been categorized as having more simpler needs then the rest of us city folks. But just because you sing sad songs about your dog dying and you pickup getting repossessed doesn’t mean you can’t throw down for a nice watch when you are in need of some retail therapy. A few weeks ago at the MSN-In Style cocktail party, Natalie Maines of the “Bush Hating” Dixie Chicks was seen wearing a sporty new Chanel J-12 watch. She was photographed with her bandmates Emily Robinson and Martie Maguire.
Even high profile musican’s assistants are getting in the game. Everyone’s Favorite personal assistant Fonzworth Bentley was spotted getting down at DJ Cassidy’s 25th birthday party. At the party, he was photgraphed wearing a stainless steel Corum Admirals Cup watch.
Jeez, Can some musician please hire me to be their personal assistant? I can order food and hold umbrellas real well.
