The IWC Portuguese Perpetual Calendar II is powered by the exclusive IWC calibre 51610, which is part of the IWC Pellaton family of movements. Characteristic to the Pellaton calibres are a unique and highly efficient bi-directional winding system incorporating a rocking bar with jeweled rollers and a pawl. Further outstanding attributes of the 51610 calibre include an exceptionally long 7-day power reserve and a screw-weighted balance wheel equipped with a Breguet overcoil hairspring. The perpetual calendar functions of the IWC Portuguese Perpetual Calendar II are both wonderfully user friendly, and aesthetically balanced.
Since the calendar elements of day, date, month, and century year – as well as the moonphase adjust simultaneously when the crown is turned, there is no need for complex individual setting procedures such as is often the case with more traditional perpetual calendars; another advantage of this system is, that should the watch be put aside and stop, it is a simple matter to reset it within moments. A power-reserve indicator shows the status of the watch’s mainspring, ensuring that the watch need not run down, unless its owner so desires. Like its larger sibling the Portuguese Perpetual Calendar, this watch features a moonphase complication that is the most precise ever developed in a portable timepiece steadily moving in a “celestial arena” at the top of the dial, 577.5 years will elapse before this display errs by one day from the moon’s actual progress.
The IWC Perpetual Calendar II is available in both 18K rose gold with a silvered dial, and also in 18K white gold, with a richly colored “ardoise” dial; both versions showcase the elegant leaf hands and cabochon minute track that are hallmarks of the IWC Portuguese watches.
