The IWC Ingenieur Chronograph AMG is a watch with tremendous sports capability and a sense of style to match. Created by IWC in partnership with Mercedes Benz/AMG, this special chronograph unites the rugged construction of IWC’s Ingenieur family, with design touches inspired by the high-performance automobiles built in Afalterbach, Germany. Although mechanically identical to its steel sibling (the IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Automatic), this special titanium version showcases some specific aesthetic elements which are unique to its AMG badging.
The IWC Ingenieur Chronograph AMG derives its exceptional abilities from its caliber 79350 movement. With automatic winding, and a power reserve of 44 hours, this mechanism is designed to measure time intervals of up to 30 minutes. A tachymeter flange around the periphery of the dial gives this chronograph an additional function – the ability to show average speed with accuracy to within 1/8 of a second, a fitting capability for a watch associated with some of the worlds fastest cars. The flawlessly machined case of the IWC Ingenieur Chronograph AMG fulfills the very stringent requirements demanded of a sports watch, that the carefully adjusted movement be fully protected against shocks, moisture, and strong magnetic fields. In this latter capacity, an iron cage which surrounds the movement ensures that magnetism will not spoil the watch’s precision. Also worthy of note is the case itself – crafted of titanium, it is both hypo-allergenic and extremely lightweight, as well as strong. Crown and caseback screw in to ensure water-resistance to a depth of 120 meters.
A finely adjustable matching titanium bracelet or a black synthetic strap completes the watch. With bold red indications, and recessed subdial planes, the IWC Ingenieur Chronograph AMG immediately calls to mind the instrumentation displays, such as the tachometer and speedometer, that are found inside the Mercedes-Benz AMG cars.
