Bvlgari has once again proven that Italian designers know how to make a statement. When we first saw the Ergon watch collection at the 2005 Basel World fair we were impressed. The striking design of the Ergon was unlike any other Bvlgari timepiece we had seen. In fact the design of the Ergon was so unique it stood out among the hundreds of new watches that were launched this year.
The first design element one notices about the Ergon is the case. Here Bvlgari succeeded in both form and function. The case is “large” but not oversized. Bvlgari has obviously been closely watching the trend towards larger cases sizes, but clearly did not want to design another over sized large round case watch like many of the other Swiss watch manufacturers. We like the case because it has such a sleek look to it. Bvlgari designed the case to flow directly into the strap. The case blends the best of a traditional timepiece with a round dial, but makes a statement with the oversized tonneau shape.
Bvlgari fans will appreciate having the Bvlgari logo engraved in the case on both sides. The designers have kept the dial very clean, offering only the hour, minute and second hands. A date window is cleanly set at three o’clock. We like the classic black dial with white marker, as it adds to the pure Italian look of this fine timepiece. The Ergon has a self winding movement and is water resistant to 30 meters.
